This month, West Hollywood-based novelty trading card company Bench Warmer will release a new set of cards featuring its trademark beautiful women. This will be the first time that Bench Warmer includes a stick of bubble gum in its packs of cards, a nod to the 1950’s, when Topps baseball cards were first sold with gum.
Of course, are topps baseball cards valuable and the internet go together perfectly in these days of online buying and selling.You can literally start a collection for less than $5. They’re easy to ship and so sellers can offer them cheaply on eBay. It’s a hobby for any budget.
I grew up in an old urban (blue collar) neighborhood where there certainly WERE ‘bad’ kids. There was one boy a few doors down the street who had lost an eye in a gang fight and did not attend school. When we saw him coming, we’d cross the street. There was another guy who, although about the same age as my friends and I, was nearly two feet taller and could pass for an adult by the time he was twelve. He was often drunk on his front stoop along with his mother. We said “Hi” to him but didn’t hang out there. There was a local Police station but it seemed more a place that dispatched Policemen when they were needed or just to supervise street crossings near schools in the morning than it did a place where kids in Vintage baseball cards trouble were taken to.
The children can place the pictures and words wherever they feel is right. They do not have to understand why they have decided to use a particular picture. I have used several pictures that were mysterious to me, my gut told me to use these pictures. An intuitive approach truly works best here. What’s neat is that through time, the purpose of these pictures will be revealed.
I still think of my Schwinn bike that I rode through the neighborhood (wearing my PF Flyers) and the buing baseball cards Port Richey I attached to my wheels that made a “flap-flap-flap” sound as they hit every spoke while the wheels turned. When I was on my bike riding with my friends I was, of course, the king of the world.
The city has also attempted to acquire the two remaining private parcels on the block that have gone into foreclosure. However, attempts to reach Wobser and the mayor’s office regarding an updated status on the project have gone unreturned.
At 7:30 p.m., the Pint Jockeys conclude American craft week celebrations with Bands and Bombshells Concert. This event will feature The Bellfuries, an Austin swing band, along with Galveston’s Brandon McDermott Band. And as the name of the event suggests, the featured beer of the evening will be Southern Star’s own Bombshell Blonde. This event, like the baseball game beforehand, will take place at Beach Central, 2012 Seawall Blvd.
