The finest-known 1792 silver half disme, once in the possession of then-Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson and personally owned by the first United States Mint Director David Rittenhouse, has been sold for a record $1,985,000 by Classic Coin Company of Bridgewater, New Jersey. It is the highest price ever paid for any U.S. half dime, a denomination struck between 1792 and 1873. The word “DISME” on the reverse of the 1792-dated coins is an early spelling of dime. The half dismes were the first coins struck under authority of the 1788 United States Constitution and the first struck by authority [...]

By Joshua McMorrow-Hernandez, Editor George Kolbe and David Fanning are perhaps the most dynamic of duos in the numismatic literary world, and they manned an expansive booth at the ANA World's Fair of Money last month in Philadelphia. Of course, we at CDN Publishing were there, too, and throughout the days of the event, I went out to interview several dealers and other numismatic luminaries at the ANA show. I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to talk with Kolbe and Fanning, who I've talked with in the past and have learned much from through our conversations. I threw the [...]
