The rare coin market is starting to settle in as late Spring transitions to Summer. The June Long Beach Show has long been a bellwether for this time of year as many dealers attend the show with one eye towards the Summer break. By all indications the rare coin market has weathered the first half of the year surprisingly well considering the uncertain financial markets and general trepidation usually encountered in a presidential election year. Dealers we have spoken with have reported that their activity has improved consistently from January to date. The market is not great by any means, but it’s not bad either. Attendees at the recent PCGS Invitational told us that they did a fair amount of activity and were pleasantly surprised by the results. The next six weeks will be quieter with fewer shows and auctions, but should offer a chance for dealers to prepare for the big ANA show in Anaheim in early August.
CDN REACHES ARRANGEMENT WITH CCE
We are pleased to report the CDN Publishing has reached an arrangement with Certified Coin Exchange (CCE) and we will once again report CCE bidding activity on these pages. According to CDN Publisher, John Feigenbaum, âthis is a significant step for us as reporters of the rare coin marketplace. Many dealers rely on CCE for their bidding activities and we are excited to report on these values on the CDN publications.â The Greysheet values published today are comprised of market research from CoinPlex, CCE, live auctions, private treaty transactions and other research performed by the CDN editors. Feigenbaum continued to say that âno other numismatic wholesale pricing tool offers this level of research and commitment to accurate pricing.â
THIS WEEKS MARKET
Eagles & Modern Commemoratives / Gold Issues: Some minor subtractions this week as spot prices dip slightly.
Modern Commemoratives / Gold Issues: Some minor subtractions this week as spot prices dip slightly. (4) First Spouse issue listings have been added for 2014.
BU Silver Dollar Rolls: A handful of issues declined this week thanks to reliable feedback from a major market maker in this area.
Type Coins (MS & Proof): Some market price changes for half dimes through twenty-cent pieces, as well as a minor decline in gem type 2 Standing Liberty quarters. We have
added a type listing for the 1792 half disme, which is worthy of our inclusion as a popular one-year type issue.
