Coin Collecting Isn’t Only Reserved For Children

Looking for a five ounce silver America the Beautiful bullion coin? More people collect US coins than those of any other nation so a mintage of 33,000 is a drop in the bucket when it comes to satisfying demand. What should have been a mintage three times larger shrunk due to technical difficulties at the US Mint.

Publications and books. I would not recommend a beginner collector run out and buy expensive books or even coin magazine subscriptions. Those are for more advanced collector. For now, search your public library for books to read. These will likely contain more information than you need at this point but allows you the knowledge to know what’s out there as far as information in general. Don’t overload yourself on books reading information you don’t need or understand at this point as you will lose your enthusiasm when you get overwhelmed. Only read what pertains to your particular collection. If a book contains information on a variety of coins, skip over everything except the information you are looking for. Learning the terminology of numismatics is the goal.

Which brings up the most important point – education. Before starting to collect coins beyond the “pocket change” phase, it is important to do your homework. This will do two things. First, it will save you a lot of money. Knowing which coins are rare and having a good idea of what the values are of any coin you’re interested in collecting will spare you buyer’s remorse when you learn you paid way too much money for a comon coin.

Another word of wisdom. You have a choice to make. Do you buy something rarer and lower quality or a higher MS and more plentiful? If it’s a Morgan silver dollar at $100, which is the better choice? It depends on what you will do with the coin. Is it for show? Then go for the luster and lower defects. After all, you want to show off your best. But if appreciation is the goal, a rarer coin might prove better in the long run. Either way, only spend what you can afford and have fun. Get a good beginners book for collectors and invest in the “Official Red Book” of US coin values. Learn what’s out there on the internet and visit a local “>coin shop Mocksville Worth Money: There are many forms in which silver can be bought, so you need to know exactly how you want the silver before you buy it. For example, you can put it in a bank vault as a collectible or as an investment to cushion you from an economic melt down. Whatever the reason for buying silver, be wary of scammers who are prowling the internet for un suspecting silver buyers.

Silver is one of the most affordable and convenient ways to invest your cash. As with any investment, there is risk and the value of your investment will fluctuate up and down over time. I hope you are able to invest in Silver and enjoy the ride!
